Virtual Holiday Cheer With Student Council Celebration

This past December, the THS Student Council worked alongside our teachers and staff to host a fun and festive virtual holiday celebration before our annual winter break. Due to COVID-19 and the CDC-suggested guidelines that are still in place, THS found it would be impossible to host the schoolwide holiday activities that would typically be held prior to the release for winter break.  This year, after discussion with their peers, the Student Council recognized that…

THS Students and Staff Honor Maddie Bell

This November, the Terryville and Plymouth community had an unexpected tragedy. Madeline Bell, a sophomore at Terryville High School, passed away on Friday, November 13th.  Because Maddie was a student at THS, the school and all its members were deeply shaken by the news. Several teachers, such as Student Council advisor Mr. Robert Nave and FBLA advisor Mrs. Jessica Hurd, transformed their pain at the jarring news into making a difference in the community to…

Principal Appreciation Month – Needed Now More Than Ever

A typical October is a bustling time for students – school is in full swing, Halloween is just around the corner, and winter is slowly approaching. But 2020 is not a typical year. Terryville High School students during this October were adjusting to a new type of school year: one that takes place both online and in person. Adapting to this new way of learning was difficult, but for students with the support of THS…

Spirit Week Spreads Cheer Throughout the 2020-2021 Year

Like the rest of 2020, this year’s Spirit Week will be a little different. While we won’t have our traditional pep rally in the gym, our Pep Club has put their brains together in an attempt to create something equally special.  Originally scheduled for November, Spirit Week will take place later this year. In the meantime, we should be receiving news about some holiday themes we can participate in over the next two weeks. Keep…

Door Decorating and Other Events from Student Council Bring Us All Together

It would be redundant to comment on how different and confusing this school year has been for us all, yet it’s important to emphasize something that many may not have noticed––the lack of available interaction between peers and teachers. Not only this, but students have noticed a lack of connection between themselves and their fellow peers. While it may have become increasingly obvious with the move to fully distanced learning, many students have admitted that…

Girls’ and Boys’ Soccer Not Paused in Pandemic

As we have all been experiencing, 2020 has been filled with uncertainties and strange new realities that have been difficult to adjust to. For many students, it has become mandatory to deal with the effects of a global pandemic, including our student athletes. With practices being pushed back later in the year, limited spectators, and social distancing being enforced, our teams of Kangaroos have been forced to adjust to these new changes for this crazy…

Terryville Mock Election Mirrors 2020 Election

The presidential election: one of the most important aspects of our American democracy. Every four years U.S. citizens age eighteen and up vote to decide who will be the next leader of our country. But what about those who do not meet the age requirement? Every four years for the past twenty four years, Terryville High School has been staging a mock election to allow high school students, especially those under the age of eighteen,…

Remote Learning Schedule Extended into 2021

Among the many challenges this pandemic has brought to light is how to structure online remote learning so that students are given the most instructional time possible while still being able to balance meeting with teachers, doing their school work, and still having time to participate in clubs during these strange times. Our school administration has worked hard to create the schedule they think works best for their students, while also adhering to state laws…

A Final 2019-2020 Message from Mr. Hults

It is certainly easy to list the tremendous number of negative impacts that COVID-19 has had on our society and our world.  From the inconvenience of grocery shopping with a mask and having to follow arrows on the floor, to the far more serious and real impact the disease has had on families medically.  For our community, I certainly hope the impact has been with a lack of toilet paper and hand sanitizer and not…

Summer Vacation = Summer Reading

Social gatherings may be temporarily canceled, but reading is not! THS staff members rallied their voices in favor of reading to support the THS Summer Reading assignments, which were distributed digitally to the district in the last week of May. Teachers and staff across the school shared their diverse love of books, such as assistant principal Mr. Vigliotti, literacy specialist Mrs. Simpson, guidance counselor Mrs. Lusitani, history teacher Mr. Schumann, and of course, English teachers…
