Ready to Learn, Ready to Thrive

Walking into school for their first “normal” day back after the chaos of the past year and a half, Terryville High School students did not expect the plans that awaited them. Instead of the usual bouncing from classroom to classroom and going over syllabi and rules, students were first instructed to make their way out to the track to the sound of motivating music where a pep rally of sorts was held. The ready to…

Spirit Week Spreads Cheer Throughout the 2020-2021 Year

Like the rest of 2020, this year’s Spirit Week will be a little different. While we won’t have our traditional pep rally in the gym, our Pep Club has put their brains together in an attempt to create something equally special.  Originally scheduled for November, Spirit Week will take place later this year. In the meantime, we should be receiving news about some holiday themes we can participate in over the next two weeks. Keep…

Door Decorating and Other Events from Student Council Bring Us All Together

It would be redundant to comment on how different and confusing this school year has been for us all, yet it’s important to emphasize something that many may not have noticed––the lack of available interaction between peers and teachers. Not only this, but students have noticed a lack of connection between themselves and their fellow peers. While it may have become increasingly obvious with the move to fully distanced learning, many students have admitted that…

Staying Home But Still Having Fun: Class of 2020 Finds Ways to Keep Traditions Alive

March was an anxious period for most students. The normal stress of school – papers, math tests, AP exam prep – was slowly being taken over by another beast. This battle, for students and staff alike, was totally new: a worldwide pandemic. Throughout February, students received notifications from the news on their phones; they were frequently updated about the spread of COVID-19 as it infected thousands. At first, it seemed like something that was strictly…

Teacher Appreciation Week, From Afar

As we strive to make our lives seem normal in a time where many are working from home or completing online classes, THS found a new way to celebrate its teachers and all they have done for their students this Teacher Appreciation Week. Like students, teachers at THS and every school across the country have had to find ways to adapt to a new way of providing lessons to their students. While this can be…

Morning Announcement Boys Back At It Again

Every day at Terryville High school the morning bell rings, allowing students to exit their first period classes and rush off, feet pounding down the halls, to wait in line at the cafeteria to get some breakfast before finding their way to their homerooms. Eight minutes later, the bell rings again, signaling that it is time for the next period to start. As the scent of french toast and waffle sticks dunked in maple syrup…

2020 has continued to be a year filled with surprises and new changes. The last few months of this year have felt like anything but normal. However, with the help and amazing work of our teachers, our distance learning from home still keeps us connected as a school and a community. Ms. Erickson, the head of the Pep Club, decided to create a way to allow THS students the chance to continue to remain connected…

COVID-19 Crisis: Is This Our New Normal?

Beginning last December in Wuhan, China, the spread of the virus SARS-COVID 2 (severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2) has become a pandemic, consuming much of the world, and its impact continues to grow. Rapidly spreading across the globe, the respiratory disease caused by the virus (COVID-19) has slowed our nation to a standstill. Locally, in our little state of Connecticut, the Governor and other government officials are working with the medical and health professionals…

Staff Infection Goes on the Record About Music Passions: Interview With Terryville’s Favorite Band

“Mr. Schumann is my favorite, he totally shreds on that guitar!” “No, Mrs. Erickson is the best!
