What Does It Mean to Thrive?

After the momentous start of the school year with a focus on “Ready to learn, ready to thrive,” students in Mrs. Avcollie’s Voices in American Literature classes put that motto into practice. They were tasked with writing synthesis articles, which are constructed by incorporating information from at least four of six different sources into their own argument with support of or in opposition to a set prompt. For these articles, the prompt was to “Present…

Student Opinions: Current Events

In AP Language and Composition, students are asked to write persuasive arguments about various topics. Their evidence must come from their observations in life – what have they read, seen, or experienced? In order to help students broaden their perspective and awareness of happenings around the world, as well as build their potential pool of evidence to support written arguments throughout the year, they are asked to write monthly blogs about articles that interest them….

Spirit Week Spreads Cheer Throughout the 2020-2021 Year

Like the rest of 2020, this year’s Spirit Week will be a little different. While we won’t have our traditional pep rally in the gym, our Pep Club has put their brains together in an attempt to create something equally special.  Originally scheduled for November, Spirit Week will take place later this year. In the meantime, we should be receiving news about some holiday themes we can participate in over the next two weeks. Keep…

Door Decorating and Other Events from Student Council Bring Us All Together

It would be redundant to comment on how different and confusing this school year has been for us all, yet it’s important to emphasize something that many may not have noticed––the lack of available interaction between peers and teachers. Not only this, but students have noticed a lack of connection between themselves and their fellow peers. While it may have become increasingly obvious with the move to fully distanced learning, many students have admitted that…

Girls’ and Boys’ Soccer Not Paused in Pandemic

As we have all been experiencing, 2020 has been filled with uncertainties and strange new realities that have been difficult to adjust to. For many students, it has become mandatory to deal with the effects of a global pandemic, including our student athletes. With practices being pushed back later in the year, limited spectators, and social distancing being enforced, our teams of Kangaroos have been forced to adjust to these new changes for this crazy…
