Winter Sports Recap

Boys Basketball

From their previous record of 11 wins and 10 loses in 2016-2017, the Terryville Boys Basketball team has had room to grow into a communicative and strengthened set of players. Fast forward to the present season of 2017-2018, the team has seen a rough beginning of 4 loses and 1 winning game. However, during their recent first win against Nonnewaug, a statement from current senior Varsity boys’ basketball player, Mike Tiscia, says, “Right now I feel confident. We had a rough start, but this game helped our confidence and I think we will be successful.” It seems that as of right now, the team feels hopeful about their future seasons to come as they look to one another for strength, as well as local supporters for encouragement, boosts their self-esteem.

Girls Basketball

The Terryville Girls Basketball team has had their fair share of losses throughout their last season. With a total of 16 loses and 4 wins, the will power for a better record in their 2017-2018 season seems like good encouragement. From the team, sophmore basketball player, Kassie McCarthy says, “It’s a fun team to be a part of. We have learned to joke around when we can and work when we need to.” Although their recent record has shown little hope of a successful season, starting with a streak of 7 loses may call for some inspiration. The team players seem hopeful though, knowing that their season is not close to its halfway mark. Supporters have gathered at their games, cheering them on, and encouraging them to play on with all their strength.

Boys Indoor Track

According to most of the players from their previous season, the boy’s of indoor track have found the room for improvement and a sense of better experience while racing. In their recent season, many teammates have found their way to State Championship categories. This includes Senior, Corey Picard, who recently qualified for the State Championship in the 3200, who also feels that he can qualify for other categories in the rest of the season. In hopes of successful future seasons, the team feel confident as a whole and individually.

Girls Indoor Track

The girls of indoor track have seen many opportunities for improvement and their overall strength as a team. In their recent 2017-2018 season, they are on their way to qualifying for the State Championship. Track runner Madison Maske claims, “Well, the teams doing ok I believe. Audrey qualified, but the rest of us have not.” For every meet, comes a new sense of improvement and encouragement from one another and their supporters. They have high hopes for future seasons to come and have already shown their confidence throughout the current season. Supporters wish them luck in their meets to come as well as their future seasons.

Wrestling

The Terryville Wrestling Team has shown great potential for a promising program. In this 2018 season, twelve out of the fifteen wrestlers are newcomers. Although this starting image is fresher than most, the team has worked hard to find their place on the mat. From Peter Veleas, coach of the team, states, “Eventually we’ll get better, as long as we have the right mindset and are willing to work hard if I can get them to be successful. It’s going to take a couple years. So we have a lot of room to grow.” It seems that for now, the team is showing promise and supporters are waiting for the day to cheer them on for their great performance.

Cheerleading

From the side of the court to practicing hard after school, the Terryville Cheerleaders have worked hard to support the school. If you are in the stands during a basketball game, it is definite you may receive a performance or two from these encouraging cheerers. This year, the cheerleading team has seen many goals accomplished. According to junior team cheerer, Sabrina Eldred, she states, “I feel that we improved vastly from past years we are trying new stunts and we are coming up with new cheers.” However, this is only the beginning for the cheerleaders, they will be in competitions next year giving more pep to THS.
