Around the World in 1 Day: Homecoming 2018

Have you ever been around the world in one night? Obviously, not a lot of people are able to travel the globe throughout their lives, let alone in one night, but students at Terryville High School managed to become world travelers in their very own school walls. They arrived in the main entrance of the building only to be transported to different places around the world. They were given this magical opportunity to see parts of the world never seen before, all marvelously adapted into the scenes of the 2018 Homecoming Dance on Saturday, November 3rd.

As part of the Homecoming decorations, globes were designed by the Homecoming Committee in order to provide a unique placement of the names of people attending. This was initially accomplished through Pep Club when selling tickets; purchasers wrote their names on the globes which would later be used as the terrific addition to the event. Other than added decorations, THIS contributes its own cultural representation, shown through the various country flags displayed year-round in the foyer.

As the students danced and jammed, the DJ played a number of throwback songs such as “Africa” by Toto and “Low (Apple Bottom Jeans)” by T-Pain. The DJ also played more recent songs like“Lucid Dreams” by Juice WORLD, but some students wished there was a better orchestration of the songs played throughout the night in order to best fit the vibe of the evening. “The song choices were not the best,” said junior, Alyssa Thibodeau, “but I had fun dancing with my friends anyways.”

Laid out just atop of the main staircase a photo backdrop was themed to that of Paris with the Eiffel Tower as the main prop. This was used by the students to bask in taking pictures with their dates and friends. However, this was only the entrance to the main event. The cafe was decorated with colorful lights; strobe lights that illuminated the dance floor and surrounding area.

Alongside music and decoration, there were many desserts, various snacks, and beverages were presented on decorated tables outside the cafe, each cultivated. In addition to these marvels, everyone looked fantastic and very formal in their nice dresses and many with their handsome dates. Causing more commotion and overall directed excitement, this year’s homecoming royalty was announced as King Mikey Hills, Homecoming Queen Jordan Conklin, Homecoming Prince Owen Mantoni, and Homecoming Princess Jessie Valentine.

Overall, homecoming was spectacularly filled with unforgettable memories. Students danced, sang, and spent time with their friends throughout their night surrounded by all of the countries of the world. The night was filled with laughter and smiles and was a fantastic final homecoming for the seniors. Thanks to the hard work of everybody who contributed to the preparation of the dance, the night was a perfect success. The student body can’t wait to see what a beautiful night the homecoming committee will conjure up for next year’s dance!
