When She Falls

Inspired by ‘When a Boy Tells You He Loves You’ by Edwin

When she falls, she’ll hope someone – perhaps something, will care enough to answer her plead

It’s two a.m., and she’s the only one awake, soaking her thoughts in her puddle of hopelessness as her pillow falls damp.

Her voice falls short as she can’t even breathe out her words of expression: she is lonesome

But when around other, she smiles warmly as she is a believable liar

A believable liar that speaks words twisted to deceive others into believing what isn’t true

They believe as her words are handed to them like a pile of fresh picked strawberries

She remembers people telling her not to worry, and to remain strong

But when she falls, nothing is heard but the sound of church bells and muffled sobs

Everything she’s ever said is forgotten much like, how people forget that there are others than just them that exist in the world –

Still awaiting his ‘I’m here for you’ on an empty voicemail.

After that she realized that his apologies meant nothing more than ‘I will never be the epitome of love but false I am’

When she falls…

It’s because her heart fell into pieces like a wine glass hitting the tile floor when she saw a hand that was not hers in his arms

When, she falls, every cry is as loud as the sound of rain hitting the pavement; she didn’t fall for him, no, sadly she fell for his lies instead

I guess ‘sorry’ seems to be the hardest word to escape his lips.

She falls not long after she was left on the corner of Main and Broadway expecting him to pull up beside her; she walked home, no…not again

When she prays for her savior, the silence of the room is broken; she watches her world crumble to her feet like a descending tower of jenga.

She hopes something will be at the bottom of her sea of tears to catch her. But she saw nobody – felt nobody.

It was then she realized that nothing he ever said were words of truth.

The city sleeps while a single light remains lit like the first star shining through the galaxy.

From there she stays pondering about everything he’s ever said, his voice echoing throughout her mind like a mockingbird.

Is that all it was? False truths blanketed around her like a sheet of ice, piercing her heart with every crack that follows.

Then again.

It’s just ‘love’.
