“Night Under the Stars”: Prom 2019

Under a sky illuminated by hundreds of stars, young ladies in bedazzled ball gowns and young men in their finest suits trailed out into the night after the Terryville High School Senior Prom. On May 11th, gifted with warm weather and a gorgeous sunset, the seniors, their dates, and their friends joined together for an appropriately-named “Night Under the Stars” located at the elegant Farmington Club.

Beginning at 5:30 pm, attendees began to arrive, posing for pictures backlit by the sunset against the water on the grounds of the Farmington Club. The beautiful weather made it a perfect day for photographs near the Farmington Gardens pond, in its white gazebo, and under a trellis perfect for a real-life photo-op. Once everyone arrived, students and teachers mingled as they awaited a night of celebration filled with delicious meals and dancing.
For the starting course, salads were served accompanied by a basket of rolls. Immediately following, pasta was also provided for the attendees. However, the most anticipated was the main course. The students had choices between vegetarian lasagna, chicken parmesan, prime rib, or jumbo shrimp. While it was all delicious, the prime rib surprised everyone by being larger than most people’s heads!

Once students had had their fill, it was time for the main event: dancing. To get students out of their seats and on the floor to bust out some dance moves, the DJ began to play more upbeat and fast-paced dance party anthems. As the music shifted, many students prepared themselves for dancing by kicking off their shoes and bopping into the crowd: many of the ladies decided to take off their heels in order to comfortably dance the night away. The DJ was well-versed in his varying genres and artists to appeal to everyone’s liking. From Migos to 5 Days of Summer; “Brickhouse” to “Ocean Eyes,” there was certainly something for everyone.

In addition to the music, there was a photo booth consisting of facial props such as clown hats, large pairs of sunglasses, and speech bubbles. Alongside the dance floor was a mini “bar” with virgin slushies including flavors such as piña colada, strawberry daiquiri, and the crowd-favorite chocolate slushie, which reminded many students of the classic “Frosty” from the fast food restaurant, Wendy’s. However, the shining moment of the night was the announcement of the prom court, the Prom King and Queen. Prom attendees cheered as the Court was announced, which included Michael Hills, Garrick Webster, Thayna Leite, and Jordan Conklin. Yet the roar was even more deafening as Hailey Martin announced that Prom King and Queen were the steadfast couple Mikal Lynn White and Logan Morneault. As the music faded and the night ended, attendees wandered out into the starry night and will be able to say it was definitely one to remember.
