Need Cheer? No Fear, Powder Puff Cheerleading Is Here

Traditionally, Terryville High School has a pep rally every year, and all the students show up with their best school spirit. Beach balls float through the crowds, student feet tap rhythmically along with drum beats, and athletes charge in through banner upon paper banner. The students and teachers wanted more spirit, so the Pep Club gathered together a group of male volunteers from all grades in order to form the legendary Terryville High School Powder Puff Cheerleading Team.

The newly formed Powder Puff Cheerleading Team had two weeks to practice and by the time of this year’s pep rally, October 27, they were ready. In the week leading up to the date, everyone was pumped. They had Spirit Week all week with almost everyone in the school participating, which goes to show what school spirit the students have. Friday, the day of the pep rally, everyone was dressed up in their class colors and every bleacher filled with white, gray, orange, and black. Students cheered as student teams ran out, teachers danced, and chants were started.

All these awesome activities warmed up the crowd for the Powder Puff team. Finally, it was the Powder Puff’s turn to take the stage. Their coordinated dance started off with the team getting ‘mail’. The team captain called them all out to tell them the news revealed in the mail: they were going to the Powder Puff Nationals! They all started jumping up and down excitedly. The music starts; it’s “Rake it Up” by Yo Gotti.  There were many suggestive dance moves in it to contribute to the humor of the dance. At one point, they even lifted one leg of their shorts up and pointed at the teacher, Mr.Veleas, who didn’t know what was happening. Towards the end they went into a huddle, rolled out and, their star dancer, Cayleb LeClerc went into the middle of the group and did a backflip to end it all. The crowd seemed to love it. They received many cheers during the whole dance, especially when they had finished their routine. It was a masterpiece of choreography danced to perfection by the team.

Since the pep rally, the school has formed a formal cheerleading squad. But in their absence, the Powder Puff boys rose to the challenge and delivered a pep rally that no one will forget.
