New! THS Artist Corner

An Ode to a True Diffendoofer: Mrs. Ritchie’s Magical Suessical Project

Every year, Mrs. Ritchie’s art students are tasked with creating paper mache sculptures that correspond with a given theme. This year, Mrs. Ritchie had a particularly difficult time choosing the theme, as this is her last year as the art teacher here before she retires. She chose the theme of Dr. Suess and P. D. Eastman, who were both authors of beloved children’s books. Mrs. Ritchie chose this theme because she knew that it would…

Basketball, Lip synching, and Mascot Boxing, Oh My!

The annual winter pep rally was an exciting event with many activities and spectacles. This year, for our winter pep rally, students were encouraged to wear specific colors based on their grades: black for seniors, orange for juniors, gray for sophomores, and white for freshmen. Once students arrived at the pep rally, they sat in their assigned areas in the gym. At the start of the pep rally, all of the winter athletes ran into…

Satire: Making people laugh and scratch their heads since the dawn of time.

AP English Language & Composition, often referred to as AP Lang, is one of the AP classes offered here at THS. In the class, students learn about rhetoric and how to write a strong essay in a short amount of time. One of the units in this class is the satire unit. It was my favorite part of the class, and if you ask anyone else they will probably say the same. In this unit,…

We’re Off to See the Wizard, the Wonderful Wizard of Oz…

Building the Yellow Brick Road: The Wizard of Oz at THS, Spring 2022 On the evening of April 8th, anticipation was building in the Borkowski family auditorium as the spring Drama Club production, The Wizard of Oz, was about to begin. For the first time in over ten years, the Terryville High School drama club was about to show us, there really is no place like home.  Raucous applause was sure to be heard throughout…

Costa Rica Photojournal

On April 13th, a group of eager students and their teacher guides jetted out of JFK International Airport on a flight to Costa Rica, where they would learn all about what it means to live “pura vida”. According to Mrs. Erickson, the main teacher guide, every day was, “Endless learning, every single aspect of the day – between learning about biodiversity, language, cultural practices, how daily life is, learning about yourself and how you are…

Roos: Ready to Learn, Ready to Thrive

Day of Kindness On April 14th, the town of Plymouth sponsored its annual day of kindness, celebrating the positive power of generosity and kindness to others. As you drove around town, many yards were adorned with bright purple “Be Kind” signs, helping to spread awareness of the day. Purple lights were placed in Baldwin Park where they could be viewed by the hundreds of drivers on Route 6. At THS the Student Council decided to…

Art Showcase 2022

Art Showcase 2022 Recently, two talented art students in Ms. Ritchie’s art classes created fabric murals as a generous donation for our local Food Pantry. Milani Giovacchino and Gia Tirino were responsible for the creation of these fabric murals which are on display. Each student designed, sewed, and painted the murals, which are real showstoppers. Wall murals are intricate large scale pieces that let you make a major statement.    For both girls, it was…

Memory Making Mosaics

If you haven’t yet taken Mrs. Ritchie’s stained glass class, then you may not know what a mosaic is. As defined by the Merriam-Webster dictionary, a mosaic is, “a surface decoration made by inlaying small pieces of variously colored material to form pictures or patterns.” If that definition wasn’t enough for you, then sometime hopefully next year a mosaic will be coming to THS, courtesy of everyone’s favorite art teacher, Mrs. Ritchie!  The idea for…

Ready to Learn, Ready to Thrive

Walking into school for their first “normal” day back after the chaos of the past year and a half, Terryville High School students did not expect the plans that awaited them. Instead of the usual bouncing from classroom to classroom and going over syllabi and rules, students were first instructed to make their way out to the track to the sound of motivating music where a pep rally of sorts was held. The ready to…

What Does It Mean to Thrive?

After the momentous start of the school year with a focus on “Ready to learn, ready to thrive,” students in Mrs. Avcollie’s Voices in American Literature classes put that motto into practice. They were tasked with writing synthesis articles, which are constructed by incorporating information from at least four of six different sources into their own argument with support of or in opposition to a set prompt. For these articles, the prompt was to “Present…
